Color Mix :: Ombre Brown & Impromptu Feast

Hello, mes amis! How is your week so far? It has been a full week for us and last night, my usual night of blogging, we had a last minute outing. A long time ago in 2013, long than my deteriorating memory can remember, I sign up for chef table at Al Dente. Only four seats per nigh back then, I was hoping to get a reservation for husband’s birthday. Reply to my inquiry was “Our earliest availability is March 2014, will you be interested?” “Sure, sign me up! Who knows if I will still be alive then, but why not?”…It is like you left a $20 bill in the inside pocket of a coat then forgot about it, when the next winter come along, you accidentally find the cash, what a pleasant surprise! ^^ That is exactly how I felt when the email pop up about our reservation. Kids went to grandma’s, we had ourselves a nice dinner date. I will blog when I get home, I told myself.

Food was good, MIL was right. There were all sort of fancy dishes including a apple wood smoke infused glass dome and chocolate cake (pop) served on a glass filled with candy sprinkles. What had really blown us away was the amount of food we were served, eighteen courses, you heard it right, 18 individual small bites. When the server brought on the 10th dish, a small plate of gnocchi and porcini, she said: “This is your last appetizer” with an Italian accent thicker than the cream mushroom sauce. I felt hopeless! IMG_6575IMG_6674 IMG_6666

I started to skip dishes, the venison, the cheese and the panna cotta. I could very well be the only guest at Chef Roberto’s kitchen table that couldn’t finish her food. He felt bad for me. I felt bad letting him down.

The story here is not to brag about my meal, although it is very good and highly recommend, but to ask you this question: will you rather disappoint the chef than overstuff yourself? or putting in broader spectrum, will you rather disappoint others than overstretch yourself? The decision might not be as easy as not eating some food but the answer should be. ;DIMG_6672 IMG_6568

Thank you so much for reading! Until my next post!

You made me laugh, thanks for sharing. I think I will feel hopeless too if the 10th course is still appetizer. LOL love your outfit and admire your high heel as always.

Thank you, Tracy! Wearing stilettos is an acquired skill, I still remember the first time I put on a pair of Weitzmen 4-inch heels, I couldn’t move an inch. 😀

Oh my. I will not disappoint that chef. But i would be sure to have guilty feelings later on. The shoes you wore are lovely.

Thank you, Danxuan! We pick our own battles one way or the other. 🙂

Amazingly beautiful! The coat, the high heels, and of course you are the most beautiful one. Just checked the link you provided, the high heels are 6inches! How long could you walk on them? Just curious.:)

Thank you, Joyce! Those are similar to what I wore but it has a platform in the front so in effect, it is less than six. On most days, I can endure my heels for two to three hours, if they are wedges, much longer. 🙂

    Very funny story!

Ennnn.. as for the outfit, I am having the same dilemma as yours: should I disappoint the blogger, or rather just keep it to myself?! Overstretching at dinner table seems easier in this case… 🙁

I think Chef Roberto enjoyed the evening and my skipping dishes didn’t really bother him, because all the other guests ate everything on their plates. It was just me who didn’t have enough room. 😀

Since you “took a detour” on Chef Roberto, I guess I’ll just keep it to myself… 😉
