Island Impression :: Printed Dress & Big Hat

Hello, my friends! A quick post on a busy day to reminiscent about the mini vacay we had early April. Nothing fancy but we did stop by one of the islands of Bahamas, Nassau. When you heard Bahamas and island, you began to flash images of bikini hotties and margaritas in your head, I am afraid you will have to wake up.IMG_0251 IMG_0253 IMG_0139When I first set foot on Nassau, apart from the blue water and colorful buildings, everything else reminded me of home in the East. First we had to pass port authority, which resides in a building that is also the home of many vending booths of local art crafts, mainly straw hats and bags. Then, with streams of other tourists, we shakes our heads and gently say “No, thank you.” to the locals who trying to lead us to their taxi or motorcycles. Five minutes later, with decent speed and on foot, we arrived our destination, the main street of Nassau. Not exactly breath-taking views, many do spend a few hours on this street, browsing duty-free stores and savor local foods.

IMG_0089 IMG_0092One of the things I like about Nassau are the colorful buildings. Though not pristinely maintained, they still speak volumes of the locals. I mean, what kind of people would paint their public library pink? They must be happy people, right? To look the part, I decided to wear my big fish print dress, coral earrings and white pumps. I forgot to pack my hat but that was not problem, got another at the local market. My biggest problem was, as I stood in the middle of main street, can you guess?

IMG_0250IMG_0242My biggest problems was, I looked totally out of place! I didn’t blend in with the locals, because they were mostly wearing white shirts and dark colored long pants; I didn’t blend in with the tourists, either, because they were mostly wearing colorful t-shirts and shorts. Obviously, I looked like a tourist, in the wrong city. 😀IMG_0111

Needless to say, my vision of photographing my outfit in the exotic streets of Nassau was, you know, remained a vision. Husband and I managed to get into the garden of Hilton.  It was filled with trees and bushes, next to a stretch of white sand beach, we were happy at last. 🙂

Quoted from Nassau Guardian, the local newspaper:
