Hello, dear friends! Despite all the rain and temperature swings, we are approaching end of May, which means Memorial Day is around the corner and summer is on its way! In the following two weeks, I will be sharing a few party-ready outfits that could be appropriate in various gatherings.
Like some other big cities on the East Coast, DC is within a few hours drive to the ocean but has a river right outside of it. One of the popular pass-time for people around the area is boating. Many people have their own boats, but there are also river cruises for hire for dinner or private parties. If I were going to one of these parties on the boat, I’d wear something that feels good in the wind but at the same time, can keep me warm when it gets chilly after sunset. What could be more fitting than an all-white linen pant set and a handsome jacket?
Basically, heavy linen clothing would be a good choice for cruising on the river this time of the year. This particular outfit found me rather than the other way around. Week before last, I went to my friend Kim’s showcase of her spring collection and I saw this pants and a matching hooded jacket on a model, I knew right there it would be a summer staple. It has ultra wide leg, or the popular term, palazzo pants, but the top part is well fitted with two good-sized pockets. The overall shape is very flattering and the pants have soft rayon lining so no worries about panty lines showing or the like for white pants. ^^ The top is also linen, from another look in Kim’s SS16 collection. Kim’s designs are in general very earthy with a touch of fantasy, think about Game of Throne’s looks for modern day. For instance, the top has a V neck with a metal “bar” in the middle that is covered with organza. Because of this little detail, I chose my accessories to emphasize the rose-hues and metal aspect, such as rose-gold sunnies, pale gold pumps (which were covered by the pants mostly) and skinny scarf with distressed chain fringes.
Texture and shape of the pants and top set the overall tone of this outfit — minimalist bohemian, if that is ever a fashion term. To continue on that though, I picked my new fun bag, the puzzle bag, for a little color. A linen blazer in denim color and fitted army-style was added to bring in more structure and edge as well as warmth when needed. The blazer has a shorten back design, perfect with high-waisted pants or skirts like this wide-leg pair I have on.
Thank you so much for reading! I hope you like Kim’s design and you can see her entire new collection on her website. See you in my next post!
