It is Sunday, my friends, let’s talk about something fun, and inspirational, perhaps. ;D Topic du jour: mixing patterns! It is one of those things actually takes a lot of effort to look effortless. The easiest to do in repeating the same pattern, like what I did in a previous post. A look like that, could also easily been seen as being “old school” and “trying too hard”. So for everyday getups, what are the “short cuts” to pattern mixing, if any?
Short Cut #1: repeat the same pattern in different colors. This works extremely well with stripes, polka dots and floral.
Short Cut #2: group patterns of similar geometric shapes. This kind of mix frequents runway recently. The patterns are not exactly the same, sometimes they have the same color, sometimes not, but together they can tell a cohesive story.
My outfit today is such an example: the plaid and the argyle are different but visually similar patterns, and the burgundy color is a common denominator between the two.
Short Cut #3: mixing patterns big and small. With the exception of patterns mentioned in the first tip, in general, there should be a dominate pattern and a sidekick. Today’s outfit also fit in this category, the pants have larger pattern than the top, hence more dominating in the entire look.
Thank you so much for reading! Wish you a great week ahead. See you in my next post!
