Hello, my friends! When you mention DC to people from out of town, most would think about museums, politics and suits. I thought the same until I began to connect with the creative crowd. DC has a very active artist scene, many of them are women ranging from painting to interior design. Last night, I was invited to Superfierce, a fund-raising event organized women artists of DC to benefit mentor program of young female artists as well as a wig donation program to women undergoing cancer treatment.
I love the title “superfierce” — it is the attitude to have to bring one’s best self forward. To echo that concept and support the artists in spirit, I decided to wear an outfit that push my creative boundaries a bit further than usual. Technically, it is a shirtdress worn half way and layered with a halter top, also worn half way. Visually, it is a mix of punk and classy in a semi-deconstructed way.
Finishing touches include fishnet tights, chain chocker and strapped ballet flats. I’ve been obsessed with these flats because they are the perfect mix of feminine, classy and punk and edgy. They come in quite a few fabric choices and strap variations, I went with the basic black with maximum glam factor (studs, velvet and leather straps). 😀
There is a slight color-blocking / pattern-blocking with this look, the same can be done with contrasting or complimentary colors / patterns. I also think a long, wide oblong scarf can easily replace the halter top and accomplish similar look. The back of the outfit can be a bit messy but that is what makes the look more organic.
Thank you so much for reading! Hope you are inspired to try create a more fierce look than your usual repertoire. See you in my next post!
