Hello, my friends! When it finally warmed up enough for us to shed the coats, what to wear to look light but stay warm becomes our next closet challenge. If you don’t have the time or energy (you know now spring days are like), to play the layering or mix-n-match game, a no-fail transitional weather outfit formula is jacket+ denim.
The jacket can be anything ranging from bomber jacket to trench coat, and among all the possibilities, I like blazer the most for it is sleek, works 24/7, and easy to find the style that works for any body type. Although you haven’t seen me wearing blazers frequently on the blog, I have in my closet no less than ten blazers of various colors and styles. My current obsession is this one I am wearing , it has all the of-the-moment design details: deconstructed, gromet lace up, leather trimming, while the overall silhouette is a classic long tuxedo one.
For an on-point blazer + denim look, the key is that the denim needs to be up-to-date. Providing that the shape of the denim works well with our body, the design details we should be looking for this season are: cropped, uneven raw edge, high-waisted, girlfriend fit (loose but not as loose as boyfriend fit), and reclaimed (new style made out of old Levis). My jeans choice for today’s look is a pair of uneven raw edge one with patchwork detail on the bum, which works super well with the lace-up back design of the blazer.
Even though I am wearing a designer denim with this look, I personally don’t think designer denim is worth the investment. This is one of the areas where high street often beats high fashion in overall utility. My favorite online places to shop for trendy jeans are Zara and Free People.
With eye-catching detail like the lace-up and patchwork, I want to keep color-scheme of this look streamlined, just black and denim. On the contrary, if the blazer is a very plain one, I’d use a colorful bag or spice up the jewels or wear a pair of statement heels.
Thank you so much for reading! I hope you are inspired to try out or update this classic closet formula! Please do share your looks with me via comments below! See you in my next post!
