Better Hair Inside & Out

Hello, my friends! How do you like my last post on mature skin care routine? Today I want to talk about my recent “adventure” with hair care, dealing with some of the common challenges women over 40, such as increase of gray hair, hair thinning, dry hair, etc.

Gray Hair

Earlier this year, I talked about getting more and more gray hair, to the point I couldn’t pluck them out fast enough. I did what they called “gray blending”, using highlight to mask the look of gray hair. Three months later, I did a touch up with an even lighter shade anticipating summer sun exposure. Because of the lighter shade, my hair stylist had to bleach my hair more. The gray hair is less visible for sure, at the same time, I notice my hair got a lot drier, began to tangle a lot more. Summer sun exposure exacerbated the issue, by the end of summer, I feel my hair got drier and had more breakage.

Dry Hair

One thing I worried the most about dying my hair is dry hair, and it is happening to mine! Fortunately, I received a couple of new hair product press packages, both specialized in keeping hair moisturized. I first tried out Christophe Robin , it smelled wonderful, however, my hair didn’t feel moisturized enough, nor it was smooth after wash. Two weeks later, I switched to Aveda Sap Moss collection. The herb smell is quite strong, so is the moisturizing effect. I also like the fact this line is vegan and free of all the harmful chemicals, while still lather and wash very well.

It’s not the end of dry hair, though. After consistently using the Aveda Sap Moss shampoo and conditioner for over 6 weeks, my hair is still a bit on the frizzy side. It’s time to bring out the big guns, a.k.a. hair masque. I had been using the Aveda Damage Remedy intensive restructuring treatment twice a month before summer, it worked like a charm even with my colored hair. This time around, I want to give this Bumble & Bumble overnight sleep-in hair masque a try because I think my hair need some TLC before going back to a maintenance routine. I will come back to review my experience after a couple of weeks using it.

Hair Loss

There are many factors that can cause hair loss. Stress, hormone change, diet, all could cause hair to fall out more than usual. I know at my current age, hormone is probably the no. 1 reason for hair thinning. Besides topical treatment, dietary supplement that could promote hair growth as well as healthier scalp is equally important.

I’ve been taken multivitamins and biotin since my late 30s, they might have an overall positive impact on my hair, skin and nails, but the aging still happened: thinning hair, bristle nails and dry skin. When I received the trail pack of Kera Health hair capsules for women, I was very frustrated with my hair drying and falling out. Since the supplement claimed to provide the body with highly absorbable Keratin peptides, it supposed to make our hair stronger, shinnier and fuller. It’s been three weeks since I started taking the Kera Health hair supplement, I couldn't really tell if my hair is getting fuller because the effect is usually more obvious after at least 1 - 3 moths of using, I did see my nails got a lot stronger, the strongest they’ve ever been in the recent five years.

As present point, I couldn’t vouch with my personal experience that this is the magic pill for hair growth, but I am going to continue to take it for another two months to see if I will see a visible difference. I want to share this with you in case you are experiencing similar hair issue because of aging.

Thank you so much for reading! As usual, don’t hesitate to ask me if you have any questions, either via comment below or send me a private note through the Contact page, I’d be more than happy to answer your questions and share what I know with you.
