Neutral Layers
Hello, my dear friends! Finally I’m done with my frozen periods, or, the four weeks before and after NYFW. I will be sharing with you my NYFW trend analysis, style picks as well as some BTS stories soon, stay tuned! First thing first, let’s talk about one MAJOR spring trend that is happening under our eyes. You might have noticed it already, and yes it is official, layered neutral looks are the IT style spring 2019.
What is considered neutral? All hues ranging from milk to honey, some might have a little hints of matcha, some might get that blushing effect, some might resemble that gray sky we’ve seen often during winter. There is no rules when it comes to neutral layering, just put one of top of another, of whatever you got. There are some popular style hacks, though, adopted widely by fashion influencers:
Dark neutral outer + all white / cream inner + black accessories
Light neutral outer + camel inner + white or honey brown accessories
All camel tops + white bottom + dark accessories of black or brown
Tonal in one neutral hue, especially the lighter shades
For my fellow color lovers, there is a very simple way to incorporate a color into an all neutral look via accessories. Bag or shoe, add a splash of color that is complimentary to the neutral shade you have. In today’s case, I paired with marsala red mules, the early and warm spicy hue goes very well with the camel and beige. The overall warming effect makes it okay to have a small bag in a much cooler color.
The same style hack works for monochrome looks. As you can see from the two looks below, the key difference between the two is one styled with a dark gray bag whereas he other with a fuchsia pink one. The latter brightens up the whole look and it is more appropriate for spring.
Metallics are also perfect with neutrals. While you can mix gold and silver, but I found paring gold with warm neutrals and silver with cold neutral are more appealing that the other way around. Below are two other outfits I had on recently and you can see my point.
