Fall Into Y2K

Hello, my dear friend! It is August already, where did summer go? To be honest, I feel a little depressed because I barely had any fun this summer, so far. The drop of pre-fall fashion, however, definitely gave me a mood boost because FW21 has some super fun trends: colorful and fuzzy!

The biggest fashion news for FW21 is Y2K is going super strong, lots of bright colors, matching knit sets, belly-revealing bottoms and mini skirts, it is like the world can’t enough of the young and playful energy, after a long period of standing still. If all of it sounds too intimidating, especially when you might have lived through Y2K once, there are a few style updates you can do this fall without feeling trying too hard:

• fuzzy furry accessories

  shearling, terry cloth, feather, heels or flats, these fuzzy shoes and bags will keep your digits warm when the temperature begin to drop. They can also become a good focal point if you like minimal dressing. I ordered a pair of high heel mules in khaki because I’m not super good at keep my shoes clean, but I think the cream ones or bright-colored ones are super cute.

• colorful hobo bag

  a bold color palette is a signature of Y2K style, but if you don’t feel comfortable wearing them, accessorize with a bold color is a more subtle way to rock the trend. Hobo bag is also a Y2K signature, update your fall style with a hobo bag in bold green, turquoise or fuchsia.

• handbag with bold chain strap

  bag with a chain is not ground breaking but this new trend is all about giving your otherwise structured bag some fluidity, like pairing a gold chain necklace with a wide-shoulder, oversized blazer. I am digging the oblong boxy shapes in particular.

• crop tops

  as part of the Y2K fashion trend reinvented, the crop tops are here to stay for the rest of 2021. Layer them up for fall, tonal or color-clashing, going for hot pink if you want to be super trendy. If you are at an age showing your belly button is not longer appealing (like me), crop tops can still be your friend when you pair them with high-waist pants, or those one-piece styles with waist line cutouts like this dress.

• printed fitted pants

  I can’t say these are Y2K essential but they compliment the crop tops and oversize shirts / blazers super well. They are as comfy as yoga pants but polished like trousers so when you go back to the office, you can have the best of both worlds.

Investment in trends is best made when they begin to take off, I’d say buy them now than waiting for seasonal sale.
