Dare to Sheer

Hello, my dear friends! It is almost Halloween here in the US, which has nothing to do with today’s outfit, even the black and orange might indicate that way. ^^ I bought this super fun swim set in the summer because the ruffles on it are so beautifully done, now that summer is long gone, our next tropical venture is still months away, I don’t want this great design (and my investment) just hanging there collecting dust. The solution I came up with, as you are seeing here, is to wear the top on top of a top, and the top is sheer. ^^

According to the latest Porter magazine, sheer is a trend this season. Apparently, we can’t be wear sheer tops without any coverage like the models do, so how can we incorporate sheer clothing (especially tops) without looking remotely trashy? The key is, finding the right designs and clever cover up.

A good sheer design is of great quality (not too flimsy and easily pulled) and with interesting details (patterns, embroideries, layers, embellishments, etc.) The design details will take attention away from the sheerness as well as making the whole piece appear more high fashion. The top I am wearing today is a plain turtleneck, but the fabric is elastic and thick, the garment fits well and has minimal slip, and the pale pink embroidered words are very playful without being trashy. Paired with  polka dot swim top, then paper-bag leather pants of high quality, the whole look is unexpected and chic, and still elegant enough for a night out.

One other frequently seen ways of rocking a sheer top/dress/bottom, is wear presentable lingerie beneath, you can go monochrome or use the opportunity to color-block. My personal fav is to layer with another sheer design or layer on top of an opaque one. If the sheer piece is fitted, wear it underneath opaque designs with large openings such as deep V, open back, off the shoulder, etc, is another great way to style with sheer.

Thank you so much for reading! I hope you will give the sheer trend a spin. Let me know how it goes via comments below. See you in my next post!
