New Boss Girl
Hello, my dear friends! Did the tile of this post make you think there is a new person? Hehe, sorry, still just me. We are going to talk about power dressing and how to give it a new flair for the season, however, so in a way, you can expect some changes.
A few weeks ago, I was asked by Farfetch to style a look for its online publication, the subject is the new power dressing (you can see the entire editorial online). Farfetch is one of my go-to shopping sites, I often find cutting-edge fashion, especially from European designers, from their site. When I was offered this opportunity, you bet I jumped on it and what better place could I find exact the piece I want for this task?!
Power dressing is not all about business attire in an office environment, I think it is how to dress to impress professionally and feeling confident about one’s ability to conduct business. For the year 2017, there is a movement of recognizing the power of female. I think the most powerful thing is accepting who we are and not afraid of showing it. The best example fashion-wise I can think of is the new Dior under the direction of Maria Grazia Chiuri. The future is female, that is her message, and what we see are masculine colors, feminine details and boyish aesthetics. Combined, a very powerful image of a girl who feel as equal as, if not more powerful, as boys, and at the same time, not afraid to show everyone that she is a girl. My style inspiration for today’s power dressing, is undoubtably, the Dior girl.
I want to style a suit, which is a key trend this fall. Channeling the aforementioned Dior girl, I also want to incorporate some very girly elements into look. Started with the color black, I found this pair of super cool pants with pleated skirt overlay on Farfetch, it is the perfect mix of masculine and feminine. Pairing it with a sleeveless, mock-neck knit top in basic white to keep it streamlined and professional. For the top, I opted for an old fav of mine, this cut-out blazer by Helmut Lang that I have since 2013. The design is very minimal and edgy, like a reverse tuxedo, it completes and shows off the skirted pants very well.
Accessories is where I pull in the girly details, things like pearl-adorned heels, sparkling statement earrings and the leather beret. These details make us feel definitely feminine while not outshine the powerful, business-focused overall image we try to build with the look.
