At Home Style - Utility & Neutral

Hello, my dear friends! How is your first week of September? A mere three months left for 2020, where did the year go?! Are you going out more for work and leisure? As I am self-employed, I still spend the majority of my time at home, so are my friends who work for the government and other corporations.

When the news came out that we might be staying home for the majority of 2020, people start to go on a vacation mode with style, you might have seen sweats, tie-dye, running shorts, even undergarments dominating your phone screen. The best selling luxury item is not the latest Chanel bag, it is the latest Chanel dad sandals. We can safely bet this will continue for the rest of 2020, or until we are back to the office 100%.

Now comes the question many fashionistas ask, I am tired of sweats, what else should I wear this fall? In my last post, I talked about the romantic prairie dress trend, so today I want to show you a few styles that I consider essentials for this fall, not only they elevate our stay home style while not compromising any comfort, they also make the perfect layering pieces when it gets even cooler.

First item is the oversized shirt jacket, essentially, it is a XL utility shirt with heavier fabric. It’s a super easy one to throw on and take off, paired with your favorite sweats, knits or even bralette (as I am doing here), the resulting look is chic, polished yet still have that effortless cool vacationing vibe. My personal pick of a shirt jacket is a design by Nanushka, a modern minimalist and sustainable fashion brand based in Hungary. Of all the colors and fabrics combination it comes in, I went with the light beige vegan leather one. I love this light beige, a good neutral hue that works well with all other colors, and the vegan leather from Nanushka is top quality, it holds the shape super well.

Another trending item that is also fall wardrobe essential is the hoodie. I’ve been living in hoodies ever since quarantine started. Coming fall I want to upgrade mine cotton ones to cashmere, and of course, you can bet I will go with another neutral shade so I can layer it with my light beige shirt jacket and camel coat later on.

In lieu with the utility and neutral clothing trend, fashion jewels have gone chunky and mostly, gold. The combination is very androgynous. My favorite ones go to Paco Rabanne link jewels, on point style and superb quality. When they first introduced them last fall, fashion insiders snatched them up in no time before the majority even noticed, so get them from the sale while supply lasts!

Last but not least, a few other accessories I think will help complete the utility & neutral style. They are all part of the Harvey Nichols’s Labor Day sale (details below), you get 15% off until Tuesday, September 8:
