No-Fail Chic Style for Fall / Winter

Hello my dear friend, how was your October? After the glory of all the foliage changing colors, we are now heading toward the coldest and darkest days of the year. We can’t sweat (please forgive the pun, I had to) it too much though, but we can for sure protect ourselves against the cold while still looking super stylish. Today I am going to show you a no-fail fall/winter look, a style that can work for any body type. I will also give you a few style tips to make it work for your style character. Now without further adieu, here is the one-for-all sweat(er) + slip (dress/skirt) + boots look:

The key styling point of this look is a chunky knit and a flowy skirt, the contrast of the heaviness of the top and the lightness of the bottom makes the combo cozy and effortless. It works well for all body types because we can tweak the sizing of either the top or the bottom to maintain that contrast. For example, for pear-shaped girls, go for a shorter and boxier knit, a size bigger than normal would balance out the hips; For a girl with border shoulders, or heart-shaped, a v-neck knit that will fall below the hips would do the trick, especially paired with a skinny belt, shoulders would look softer and the hips will appeal fuller. What if I don’t have a very defined waist, or I am pregnant and my belly is bigger than my waist? You asked. My solution for that is replacing the slip skirt with a slip dress, go for one size larger. The soft silk will follow your body’s movement, and it will always fall on the widest part of your bottom first, particularly in the case of extra room. So when we sit and walk, the dress will highlight your hips and create an illusion of a slimmer waist line because of the fabric movement.

I’ve pulled some items from Harvey Nichols to show you a few possibilities:

Besides all the possible color combo, you can also modify this look with your favorite types of tops or bottoms as long as you maintain that contrast between them, and make it work in your favor. It’s also super easy to winterize the look by just throwing on a blazer, wool coat, even a puffer, and a pair of boots to keep those stems warm. I am wearing ankle boots here but I would totally go for a pair of knee high when it gets colder. You might see many pair this look with sneakers or stilettos, either one works but I think they are too last year. In this year when a lot of things are out of control, we are forced to lie back in our homes most of the time, a more polished yet still effortless look will certainly be a mood-lifter.

All items above are part of the Harvey Nichol’s Singles Day Sale, which will give you 11% off a single item, or 22% off 2 & more. Besides updating your style game, it is also a good one to stocking up on your favorite winter moisturizer, La Mer eye cream, ReVive renewal cream, Augustinus Bader rich cream, or discovering new ones with their curated beauty gift box. I just received my beauty gift box from Havey Nichols, it is filled with amazing beauty products, full-sized goodies as well as samples. I'm already a fan of some of the products, can't wait to try out the others like the ESPA Replenishing Treatment Oil and the Fenty Beauty Lip Paint, I've heard great reviews of them. More details about Harvey Nicols' Singles Days sale are at the end of this post.

Thank you so much for reading! As always, please comment with any questions you might have, I will do my best to answer!
