February Is Red

Hello, my dear friend! First 30 days of 2021 flew by, do you also feel we are still in the low energy zone of 2020? Technically, we are, according to the lunar calendar , still in the year of Geng Zi (Rat) until February 12. Lunar calendar is formed on the movement of the moon and the sun. If you are familiar with Western astrology, then the Lunar calendar is used in very similar ways to help the Chinese determine the timing for important activities.

There are a lot of traditions people follow celebrating lunar new year, some have become obsolete, some still make great sense in today’s world. My personal favorites are spring cleaning, wearing a new outfit and visiting relatives. When most of the world is still banned from gathering, it is even more important to hold onto some ceremonial traditions like giving gifts, sending greetings, wearing a new outfit, preferably red, as acts of affirmation.

Why red, you ask? Red is the color of luck in Chinese traditions because it is the color of fire, and fire scared the evil beast Nian away from hurting villagers according to Chinese mythology. It is even more important for certain people to wear red all year long if the year is their zodiac year (year that shares the same zodiac sign of their birth year). People believe during the zodiac year, something very good or very bad could happen, to protect themselves from evil spirits, it is advisable to wear something red every day all year. So if 2021, Year of Ox is the zodiac year for you, or someone you care about, something red would be a great one to get or give.

Ideally, a red piece of clothing item or accessory like handbag or scarf, would be a go-to choice but it could be too loud; some opt for red underwear but personally, I don’t want to wear them all day all year. Harvey Nichols sent me the perfect Chinese New Year gift box-- these Charlotte Tilbury New Year limited editions have beautiful eye-catching red packaging, and just the right items that will bring a smile to any girl age from 16 to 90. With three beautiful shades of red that will compliment any skin tone, I will be wearing red and carrying these stunning red lipstick cases all year long without having to compromise my personal style.

If makeup is not your thing, I’d suggest a piece of jewelry that has something red in it as an alternative. Here are a few I adore:

Not exactly a pure red, I found this orange red especially fetching, might be trending this spring, what do you think? With the Harvey Nichols’ lunar new year promotion, you can get 20% off and rock this fashion trend before the mass. (promotion details at the end of this post)

It also happens this year, Valentine’s Day falls within luna new year, more reasons to up your red game this February. If you are more a pink lover instead, here are some of my picks from this spring’s cool pinks. Personally, I am very inclined to get a pink sweatshirt, for it looks like going to a cozy one spend in the comfort of our homes.
